Laura Trimboli is a student in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Originally from Colombia, she decided to become a nurse as a teenager after caring for her grandmother, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
“I helped care for her in small but meaningful ways, such as applying lotion to her hands and arms. She would smile and tell me, ‘Your hands are healers,’” Trimboli says. “Those words stayed with me and continue to guide my passion for caring for others.”
She studied physical therapy before confirming that her heart was in nursing. She moved to the United States four years ago, and began to pursue her dream. She chose Brenau because of the intensive curriculum, hands-on experiences and small class sizes.
“Our classes are not too large, which gives students more opportunities to interact, actively participate and build meaningful relationships with professors who are involved in every step of our academic journey,” Trimboli says. “Additionally, I value that the program is international student–friendly and promotes multiculturalism within the classroom. That commitment to equity and support made me feel confident that this was the right place for me to grow both personally and professionally as a future nurse.”
After graduation, Trimboli hopes to pass her nursing board certification exam on the first try. She wants to work in a cardiac or pulmonary intensive care unit, and later pursue her Doctor of Nursing Practice in anesthesia. Her long-term goals include becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
“Choosing where to continue my education was a very important decision for me, and I am confident that I made the right choice,” Trimboli says. “The support, guidance and quality of education I have received have confirmed that Brenau has been the best place for me to grow academically and professionally.”
