Celebrating Brenau’s Downtown Campus

Sculptor Greg Johnson installed Nucleus outside the Gainesville Renaissance on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022.

As we begin a new academic year at Brenau, an important change is the new home of the Lynn J. Darby School of Psychology and Adolescent Counseling in the Gainesville Renaissance. This new location was made possible through the generosity of Doug and Kay Ivester.

Brenau is expanding its footprint in downtown Gainesville to coalesce into a true downtown campus location focused on health sciences. The university’s revitalization of the Brenau Downtown Center and the addition of the Gainesville Renaissance are changing the look of downtown.

I personally invite you all to two events Sept. 15-16 to help us celebrate the establishment of our Downtown Campus.

On Thursday, Sept. 15, Brenau will welcome Dr. Stephen Chew for the inaugural Lynn J. Darby School Symposium. Chew was the 2011 U.S. Professor of the Year for the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association.

His interactive talk, Preparing Adolescents to Be Academically Successful, will discuss what psychologists have discovered about how people learn and how this knowledge can promote academic success. Tickets are free, but registration is required.

On Friday, Sept. 16, Brenau will switch gears to celebrate the arts with a professional production of The Great American Songbook. This live, original musical revue celebrating 30 of the greatest songs of all time stars a professional cast from Broadway and beyond. General admission tickets are $10.

This is a great step forward for Brenau, and also another representation of how we continue to serve the Gainesville-Hall County community.

Until the next post, please follow me on Twitter and LinkedIn for more of what’s happening at Brenau.
