Celebration of Life to honor President Skleder

Anne A. Skleder

Brenau University will honor the late President Anne A. Skleder at a Celebration of Life ceremony at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Pearce Auditorium on the historic Gainesville Campus.

The event is open to the public and also will be livestreamed. Seating is limited in the auditorium, but overflow seating will be available in Thurmond-McRae Lecture Hall. A reception will be held after the ceremony, and students from a Brenau Women’s College genetics class will be offering opportunities to join the Be The Match leukemia donor registry.

President Skleder was the 10th president of Brenau and the first woman to hold that role since the university’s founding in 1878.

President Skleder kept Brenau students – who she called “our reason for being” – at the forefront throughout her four-year tenure, and established a scholarship for first-generation students soon after beginning her presidency. Under her leadership, Brenau elevated its Department of Psychology to the Lynn J. Darby School of Psychology and Adolescent Counseling, which is located in the Gainesville Renaissance at Brenau’s Downtown Campus. She also established the Miller Institute for Global Education, which expanded study abroad opportunities for Brenau students.

The Skleder family will hold a funeral mass on Nov. 7 in Pennsylvania. President Skleder will be laid to rest at Saint Agatha Cemetery in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania.

Condolences may be sent to Skleder Family, 5453 Glenridge View, Atlanta, GA 30342. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Presidential First Generation Scholarship Fund established by President Skleder.
