Brenau University reopened the Student Union Building, SUB, on Tuesday, Aug. 18, following a period of renovation.
Whitney McDowell-Robinson, Ph.D., vice president of Student Development and Engagement, said the renovations resulted from the Student Government Association sharing that students wanted the space reimagined.
“The SUB is meant to be a space for students to come together and express themselves, similarly to what the Tiger’s Den has been over the last few years,” McDowell-Robinson said. “It is a communion space that will be used for student events.”
The renovation included redoing the stairs, installing hardwood flooring, and adding new fixtures, lighting, projectors, gaming systems, and furniture.
Holly Taylor, M.Ed., assistant vice president and dean of students, said the SUB is designed to serve students in their everyday activities.
“We are so excited to finally have the SUB opened again,” Taylor said. “This space was created with our students in mind – a place to work, play, dance, study, or simply take a break. It’s a space meant to be whatever our students need.”
The SUB will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and registered student organizations can reserve the space by contacting the office of Student Development and Engagement.
