Celebrating our students and the holiday season

With the celebration of our December commencement last week, we have reached the end of the fall semester. I appreciate how the university community came together for this important university event and the myriad of holiday events, from the Faculty and Staff holiday gathering to Christmas on Green Street.

At the beginning of the fall semester, I asked you to share with me community and individual accomplishments that caught your attention and caused you to say, “Wow!” As we depart for winter break to spend time with family and friends, I want to share a few examples that put those words in my mind:

  • Vaness Peterson, an Ed.D. student nearing the completion of her degree, shared with the Board of Trustees the story of her educational journey. She described in detail how Brenau’s culture of personal attention and support has allowed her to succeed and earn her degree in the spring.
  • The College of Business and Communication started an internship program with Gainesville-based Syfan Logistics.
  • The Georgia Occupational Therapy Association recognized two students in Brenau University’s School of Occupational Therapy. Allison Brack received the Linda Stephens Scholarship and Julamy Serrano Arocho was recognized as the 2024 Outstanding Occupational Therapy Student of the Year.
  • One of our interior design students, Gabriela Rojas, and her design work were featured in a national professional magazine
  • Two Brenau student-athletes competed at the 45th annual National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women’s Cross Country National Championship. Senior Kamille Dixon and sophomore Averie Akin represented the AAC in individual competition.
  • What “Wow!” stories have you seen or experienced recently at Brenau? Please send me your examples!

Thank you for all you do for Brenau and our students. I wish you happy holidays and a restful break.
