The Gainesville Theatre Alliance will open its 2026-27 season with James and the Giant Peach from Oct. 2 to 4 at Brenau University’s Pearce Auditorium.
The Gainesville Theatre Alliance is an intercollegiate theater program and partnership between Brenau University and the University of North Georgia.
Inspired by Roald Dahl’s classic, words and music by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and a book by Timothy Allen McDonald, the musical follows a young boy who escapes his cruel aunts in a giant peach, embarking on a magical adventure with insect friends.
Cory Phelps, new director of Brenau’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting program and an assistant professor of theatre, will direct the production.
“At times, and just like James, we too will hit rock bottom, and we might need some help finding flight again,” Phelps said. “Even the smallest act of kindness can send someone soaring.”
The creative team includes Dale Grogan as musical director, Courtney Ondre as choreographer, Emma Laine Hoffbauer as scenic designer, Shelby Ashley as lighting designer, Zack Bennett as sound and projections designer and Pamela Workman as costume designer.
An ice cream social, catered by Puzzle Piece Pastries and included with admission, will follow the Oct. 4 performance.
