M.S. in Applied Gerontology

Students take part in a dementia and Alzheimer’s virtual simulation

Nationwide, there is an increasing need for well qualified, highly trained professionals to provide services to the rapidly growing aging population. Brenau’s M.S. in Applied Gerontology program lets you earn your degree in as little as one year. The 30 credit hour masters degree* includes an 18 hour credit hour core and 12 credit hours of electives. Because this is an interdisciplinary program, students are able to design a curriculum that will fit their individual education and career needs.

“A Master’s Degree in Applied Gerontology, combined with my passion to serve the aging populous, has allowed me to pursue my professional goals and desires. First, Director of Applied Gerontology Dr. Bonnie Kin, encouraged me to consider turning my gerontology capstone project into a published book.  Following further edits and submitting it to publishers, Sunrises and Sunsets: Final Affairs Forged with Flair, Finesse and FUNctionality was published and immediately became an Amazon #1 New Release and received multiple national and international book awards.

Holley Kelley, BU ’13

Throughout the Brenau University Applied Gerontology program, students are introduced to a variety of different aspects of gerontological studies. This exposure facilitates each student identifying areas of interest and focus post-graduation.  For me it was to continue and further enhance my professional calling in the area of end-of-life preparedness, and to establish myself as a positive aging cultural influencer. Subsequently as founder of the Latter-Life Planning Institute, I continue to use resourceful skills adapted from my Brenau education to enhance the lives of those growing older and help them prepare for what is to come. I enjoy creating innovative approaches to serve, and value the immense opportunities for entrepreneurship in this diverse field!” — Holley Kelley, M.S., C.P.G., FT, MS Applied Gerontology 2013

“Getting my Master’s in Applied Gerontology has opened so many doors for me!…I am working as a Geriatric Care Manager…and [have been] asked to be a part of a working group in figuring out ways to get needed and correct resources to the older adults in our community. Because of Brenau and the Applied Gerontology program, I am accomplishing my dreams!” — Paula Law, MS Applied Gerontology 2011
