Black History Month is a time to reflect on diversity

The 2023 commemoration of Black History Month comes at a time when we need it most as a community and a nation.

Perhaps there is no better time to focus our attention on Black history and culture than this moment. Black History Month was established to celebrate the achievements of Black Americans. It is most appropriate at this time to acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices Black Americans have made throughout the nation’s history.

It also is important – every day of the year – to recognize and honor our diversity as a community and a university. Brenau’s strength comes from our diversity and inclusivity, and we continue our endeavor to foster a community where every person is seen, heard and respected. I appreciate Dr. Margie Gill, our executive director of university diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives, for leading us in these efforts.

At Brenau, our positive approach continues to move us forward and knowing our own power to love deeply, to fear nothing, and to hate never – that is our Brenau advantage.

Brenau’s strength comes from our diversity and inclusivity, and we continue our endeavor to foster a community where every person is seen, heard and respected.
