On March 8, Brenau University will host its annual Dempsey Dash 5K and 1K Fun Run in memory of Wayne Dempsey, the university’s long-time executive vice president and chief financial officer. The event benefits the Wayne W. Dempsey Endowed Scholarship Fund, first funded in Dempsey’s memory in 2014 by an anonymous donor.
During his time at Brenau, Dempsey impacted the lives of the Brenau community through his dedication to the academic and personal growth of those he encountered. Dempsey passed away from cancer after his retirement in 2014. His lasting, positive impact led to the creation of a scholarship fund in his honor to continue helping students in their academic pursuits.
Associate Vice President of Human Resources Kelly Maddox worked closely with Dempsey.
“He was a great mentor and leader who supported Brenau and encouraged everyone in their endeavors,” Maddox said. “After his passing, I wanted to find a way to honor his memory that would be beneficial both to his name and Brenau and the 5k is what I came up with.”
The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Brenau Amphitheater. The deadline to register is 9 a.m. on March 7; late registration will have additional fees.
