GTA to present ‘The Heart of Robin Hood’

The Gainesville Theatre Alliance will continue its 2026-27 season with performances of The Heart of Robin Hood Nov. 6-14 at Ed Cabell Theatre.

The Gainesville Theatre Alliance is an intercollegiate theater program and partnership between Brenau University and the University of North Georgia.

Written by David Farr, the play is a retelling of the familiar legend where Robin Hood is not yet the hero audiences expect. He and his band of outlaws may steal from the rich, but they have little interest in giving to the poor.

GTA’s production is directed by Jacob Squire, assistant professor of theatre at UNG, where he teaches acting and movement. For this production, Squire draws inspiration from the communal storytelling of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, inviting audiences to become part of the world of the play rather than simply watching it from a distance.

“We approach the stage as a place where a merry company of players brings a world to life through bodies, movement, language and imagination,” Squire said. “The forest and the court are not simply places we visit; they are worlds we create together.”

The creative team includes Larry Cook as scenic designer, Shelby Ashley as lighting designer, Preston Goodson as sound designer, and April Andrew Carswell as costume designer. Robin Hood will be played by Logan O’Neill, a Brenau musical theatre major.

Tickets are available for purchase now online.

A free opening-night reception catered by Nothing Bundt Cakes will follow the Nov. 6 performance.

The production is sponsored by Jacobs Media.
