Brenau University held its annual Spirit Week from Sept. 13-18 with a series of events celebrating the campus community.
“During Spirit Week, we can bring all of these pieces of campus together and have a collective week of enjoying each other and celebrating together,” Holly Taylor, assistant vice president of Student Development and Engagement and dean of students, said.
The events included the annual alumni day at the Atlanta Braves game, a Career Fair and the GOLD Speakers Series.
Hosted by the Alumni Engagement Office, alumni and their guests enjoyed catered food and premium seating at the Hank Aaron Pavilion at SunTrust Park on Sept. 13. The Braves played the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Office of Career Development hosted its second annual Career Fair on Sept. 14 at the Brenau Trustee Library. Students connected with more than 30 businesses and organizations to discuss academic and professional opportunities.
“In the Career Development Office, our goal is for every student to have at least two job offers or two acceptances from graduate schools before they graduate,” Ralph Simpson, director of career development, said. “This is so our students will have a competitive advantage going into their senior year.”
This year’s GOLD Speaker Series was held on Sept. 15 and welcomed Nicole Washington, WC ‘17, as the speaker. Washington earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with a specialization in journalism and public relations. She currently serves as director of Grantmaking and Scholarships at the Athens Area Community Foundation.
Students, faculty and staff also participated in Library Fest, a Pep Rally, 100 Days Out celebration, and a volunteer opportunity with United Way of Hall County, a Gainesville-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing poverty in Hall County.
“These events are all about bringing the community together for one purpose,” Sahara Outler, assistant director of alumni engagement, said. “We’re here to have fun and give back to our community.”
