For the fourth time, the Brenau University Athletic Department celebrated National Fitness Day with a local Boys and Girls Club.
This year, around 30 students from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Lanier played different games with members of the lacrosse, softball, track and field and cheer teams on Friday, Oct. 26. Rainy weather was no deterrent, and the activities were held at the university’s indoor tennis courts.
The student-athletes started out the afternoon by speaking about the five core values that the NAIA exhibits in the Champions of Character: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership. The Champions of Character program encourages those influenced by sports, including athletes, coaches and parents, to build character and make good decisions. The athletes also asked the students to give examples of how to show those characteristics.
All of the students were broken up into groups and had to work together during each activity. At the end, the younger students faced the athletes in a game of dodgeball.
