We want to make the financial aid process simple for you and your family, so just follow these steps to get the most aid possible. If you ever have any questions at all, never hesitate to reach out to your admissions counselor or any member of our financial aid team.

1. Apply to Brenau

Before you do anything else, make sure you complete your application to Brenau and upload all necessary documents.

2. File Your FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) determines your eligibility for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. The FAFSA opens each year on October 1 and you can file completely online at studentaid.gov

Filing your FAFSA is the most important way to ensure that you receive as much financial aid as possible, and only takes about 30 minutes to complete. File as soon as you can, because our financial aid office processes files in the order we receive them. That means the sooner your file, the sooner you’ll know your financial aid package. You need to complete the FAFSA every year, so save it on your calendar for Oct. 1!

To share your FAFSA with Brenau, use our school code 001556 in the application

3. Consider Additional Loan Options

Many students may require funding in addition to the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Students typically choose between either Grad PLUS loans, or private loans.

Grad PLUS Loans

A Grad PLUS loan is a federal loan that allows students to borrow up to the full cost of attendance for their program.

Grad PLUS loans will be sunsetting for new borrowers on July 1, 2026, due to the One Beautiful Bill Act (OB3) To learn about the impact OB3, visit Federal Student Loans Changes from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act

Private Loans

A private loan is designed to support students in their education and is funded by non-federal sources. These loans are credit-based and interest rates and fees fluctuate based on creditworthiness and lender.
