Interior Design students visit Biltmore Estate

Group of Students Visiting Biltmore Estate

By Michael Kleeman

The Brenau chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers visited the beautiful Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, on Dec. 6.

The ten students who made the trip — which was not only to study history but also celebrate another successful semester — toured the estate, house and grounds that were festively decorated for the holidays.

Biltmore, a 250-room French Renaissance-style chateau constructed by George Vanderbilt from 1889-95, is the largest residence in America. Biltmore’s Christmas decorations include fragrant wreaths, enormous trees, glittering garland and the sparkle of thousands of ornaments across the entire state. The home itself transports you to another time and an entirely different way of life — an experience to which the students can attest.

“The Biltmore exudes elegance and grandeur,” said Shelly DePiazza, a senior interior design major. “The intricate details are seen in every aspect of the estate from the landscaping to the bedrooms.”

The outing was the first major chapter event of the year, and the officers could not be happier to be able to go out and see things together. The ASID chapter was excited for the getaway, as proven by the good turnout of students and friends. They also hope to follow this up with visits to AmericasMart in Atlanta and possibly another city of interest in the spring.
