The Early Childhood Bridge program is comprised of seven courses designed to prepare students to enter the bachelor’s program. The bachelor’s program is a 19-course, 63-credit hour degree completion program to move students closer to becoming certified by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission for pre-school through grade five. Students must pass the Teaching Field Content Exams for academic content area (GACE) prior to placement with a school system to student teach.


Features of the accelerated Adult and Graduate Studies Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education are:

• Attend class one night a week for the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education core – courses are scheduled to meet the same night of the week for the entire program.

• Take one course at a time.

• Meet weekly with a small learning team.

• The Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Admissions Requirements:

• Proof of high school graduation or GED completion

• A minimum of 46 transferrable credits completed at a college or university with regional or national accreditation

• A cumulative 2.75 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale of all attempted collegiate work, as well as a minimum GPA of 2.75 in courses with no grade below a “C”

• Official transcripts from all higher education institutions attended

• Transcript review for prerequisite courses

• Applicants whose native language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in English by providing current iBT (formerly TOEFL) scores

• Passing scores on the Program Admission Test or exempting scores on SAT (1000+ Verbal and Math) or ACT (43 English and Math)

• Demonstrated ability to complete a Philosophy of Education paper, created in ED 208

Georgia Teacher Certification Requirements:

To achieve teacher certification in the state of GA students must:

• Complete University’s graduation requirements (successfully complete a minimum of 123 semester credits with 63 of those being in the BS-ECE Core Curriculum and pay all tuition and fees)

• Successfully complete field/clinical requirements

• Achieve passing scores on state PAA & Content Exam

• Maintain a GPA of 2.75

• Pass state background check

• Complete edTPA national assessment portfolio

• Sign state code of ethics

• Meet disposition requirements

• Complete application for Professional Standards Commission certification
