On this Veterans Day, I offer my most sincere gratitude to every student, faculty, and staff member of Brenau University who has served in the United States Armed Forces.
Their commitment is truly inspiring. It’s the highest form of the Brenau community’s value of placing service before self.
If you look at our Brenau Ideal, it challenges us to “be prepared for service, thereby earning the right to be served.” I believe there’s no better, real-life example of that founding principle than veterans. That’s why their service means so much to our community.
It’s important to honor the incredible courage it took for veterans at Brenau and across our communities to answer that call – including, I’m proud to say, some of my own family members. They defended the fundamental freedoms we cherish on our campuses and across the country.
We are proud and deeply fortunate to have the leadership, resilience, and unique experience of the many veterans who enrich our wonderful Brenau community.
Brenau supports our student veterans, active duty members of the military and their families every day through a military support team, an active chapter of the Student Veterans Association, flexible online and hybrid classes, tuition discounts, and a veteran student lounge on the Gainesville Campus.
A display on the Gainesville Campus for Veterans Day specifically honors our student veterans. In front of the Owens Student Center, 262 American flags have been installed, one for each of Brenau’s currently enrolled military-affiliated students. The Brenau community proudly shows our respect for our veterans and military members via this display that will continue through Nov. 14.
Additionally, please consider joining the Brenau community in observance of the Veterans Day Moment of Silence, which will take place from 2:11 to 2:13 p.m. on Veterans Day.
To the veterans at Brenau and throughout the communities where we live, work and study: Thank you for your sacrifice. We stand with you today and always.
