Andrea C. Birch is dean of the College of Fine Arts & Humanities, a position she has held since 1999. Currently, the college includes six academic departments. The college offers sixteen undergraduate degree programs and one graduate degree program (the MFA in Interior Design). The most popular majors include Interior Design, Dance, Musical Theatre, Studio Art, and Fashion Design. Students have the opportunity to perform, exhibit their work, and complete internships. The Department of Theatre is a partner in the successful Gainesville Theatre Alliance. The Department of Art and Design takes a leadership role in Brenau’s partnership with the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. The Department of Dance hosts Days of Dance and the Summer Dance Intensive for prospective students. Dr. Birch enjoys teaching PH 240 Philosophy of Art, a course in the Liberal Education Curriculum. Prior to coming to Brenau, she taught at the American University in Bulgaria, was assistant provost and chair of the Department of Philosophy at Saint Mary’s University in Minnesota, and headed the career development and training branch at the Navy Operational Intelligence Center in Washington, D.C. She holds a PhD and master’s degree in philosophy from The Catholic University of America and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Trinity College.
