Brenau celebrates distinguished alumni at annual reunion weekend

The Brenau University Office of Alumni Engagement and the Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Department honored nine alumni and one coach at the annual awards ceremony held during Alumni Reunion Weekend, April 16-18.

Five alumni were recognized as outstanding alumni in their professions, community, and service; three alumnae and one coach were inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Brenau Alumni Awards include Professional Achievement, Community Service, the Young Alum award, the Academy Alumna of the Year, and the Hall of Fame. Alumni Award Winners for 2026 are as follows:

  • Hall of Fame – Ellen Brown Harrison, BU ’10
  • Professional Achievement – Robin Henager-Green, BU ’09
  • Young Alumna – Sara Hubaishi, WC ’17
  • Community Service – Sarah Temple Moore, BU ’13
  • Academy Alumna of the Year – Mitzi Saul, A ’76
  • Service to Brenau – Cliff Terrell, BU ’84, ’95

The Athletics Hall of Fame recognizes student-athletes and coaches who made a remarkable impact on Brenau athletics, as well as continued impact in their sport. The 2026 Athletics Hall of Fame inductees are:

  • Coaching – Blair Bachman Anderson
  • Swim – Michelle Billeaud Hill, WC ’15
  • Track and Field, Cross Country – Deishané Honeycutt, WC ’16
  • Swim – Mary Katherine “MK” Jabbia Poulicek, WC ’16

Additionally, senior soccer player Haley Wilton was awarded the Michael D. Clanton Award for Excellence, which is given to a junior or senior student-athlete each year in memory of Mike Clanton, a longtime community athletic trainer who passed away in 2020.

The annual Alumni Reunion Weekend also celebrated alumni artists at the annual Juried Alumni Art Exhibition. The following artists were awarded for their outstanding work:

  • Best in Photography: Heather R. Hanline, WC ’96, Cortile
  • Best in Mixed Media: Veronica Martin, WC ’99, Solitude
  • Best in Painting: Shiloh Van Gray, WC ’12, Ordinary Contradictions: The Unkempt Hairdresser
  • Honorable Mention: Jennifer Lynch Shull, WC ’94, Journey of Life
  • Best in Show: Jennifer Griner, WC ’96, Held in Mourning (Pearl High School, Mississippi, 1997)

Alumni Reunion Weekend is an annual tradition celebrating both Brenau alumni and students. The annual Innovation, Inquiry, and Creativity Symposium took place on Friday, featuring student and faculty research. On Saturday, students participate in Class Day, which signifies the transition of one year to the next, and May Day celebrations, including the wrapping of the May Pole and introduction of the class courts. Graduating seniors and alumni mingled and connected during a champagne brunch midday Saturday.
