Brenau students help farm workers, children in south Georgia

Students and faculty from the Ivester College of Health Sciences and the College of Education at Brenau University traveled to Moultrie, Georgia, July 19-24, to participate in the annual Moultrie Farm Worker Family Health Program.

The interuniversity, interdisciplinary program provides free patient care to farm workers and their children with the help of students in varying fields of study.

In the mornings, PT students offered the children gross/fine motor screenings. Education and psychology students offered psychoeducational screenings and play therapy. In the evenings, PT students evaluated and treated farm workers on location for various musculoskeletal injuries. Psychology students provided information and strategies to promote mental health and awareness. Education students assisted with translation and transitioning farm workers to multiple stations.

Faculty leaders guided the students throughout the program.
