by Pam Bousquet

The Center for the Arts & Design recently exhibited original works by Brenau students and faculty at the Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center. The center’s Hallway Invitational exhibition, held Jan. 14 through Feb. 27, showcased drawing, printmaking, painting, graphics, fashion and interior design.

This special exhibition of Brenau artwork was also on display during the Northeast Georgia Mountains WinterFest Arts Tour on Feb. 19 and 20This two-day art festival tour included the Helen Arts & Heritage Center in Helen, Georgia, and the Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center. Patrons were able to witness live art demonstrations, and many items were available for purchase.

Public art exhibitions such as these offer established artisans and those at apprentice or student levels the chance to display their creative works. Julia Rodriguez, who is majoring in costume design and tech at Brenau, said that these opportunities are very helpful for her career preparation.

“It aids my confidence and ability to look at my costume designs and consider them works of art,” Rodriguez said. “Having my non-costume related art on public display gives me the opportunity to receive constructive criticism from my peers and the general public, which will in turn allow me to grow as an artist and designer.”
