A study of new media from the perspective of organizations wishing to integrate new and traditional media into their marketing efforts. Emphasis is placed on consumer social interactions, marketing strategies for new media, pillars of new media communication, social media, mobile marketing channels, and tracking media effectiveness. Prerequisite(s): MK 715

MK 765 Mobile Marketing

Mobile marketing is a key aspect of digital business transformation where change is accelerating. This course provides students with the tools to take advantage of how existing marketing strategies formed over e-commerce websites, location-based platforms, and social media outlets are applied into the mobile domain. Prerequisite(s): MK 715

MK 775 Content Marketing

This course will focus on building content strategy and developing skills that students need to create effective content marketing. Key topics covered include identifying target audiences, creating brand personas, keyword search optimization and reporting, building an authoritative presence online, and creating and promoting relevant content. Prerequisite(s): MK 715

MK 785 Digital Marketing Analytics

This course specializes on marketing analytics focused on electronic/digital platforms. The course content is framed around paid, earned, and owned media with a particular emphasis on data preparation, visualization, and analysis. Popular software tools and preparation for industry certification is incorporated into the course with a discussion of emerging methodologies. Prerequisite(s): MK 715

Faculty Spotlight
Dr. Linda Barton

Dr. Linda Barton joined Brenau University in 2009. She is a department chair and an associate professor of marketing at the Jacobs College of Business and Media. Dr. Barton received her Ph.D. in Marketing from Manchester University, Manchester, United Kingdom, in 2007.

Dr. Barton has extensive marketing management experience gained in several world-class business organizations, including Nestle Packaged Foods, Inc., Dole Packaged Foods, and Foote Cone & Belding Advertising. In the JCBM, she translates her corporate experience in the classroom through an emphasis on “putting theory into practice.” She launched the undergraduate and graduate marketing degree programs at Brenau and teaches courses in face-to-face and online formats.

Dr. Barton’s research interests include writing marketing cases, marketing curriculum development and marketing strategy. Some of Dr. Barton’s publications include cases or journal articles in The Case Learning Center, The Proceedings of the Marketing Management Association Conference (MMA), The Journal of Marketing Perspectives, The Society for Marketing Advances and The Proceedings of the Association of Consumer Research.
