Student Life at Brenau
![]() |
… is what you make it. But you will have plenty of tools. For more than a century, Brenau students have represented a tapestry of rich cultural and geographic backgrounds, interests, talents and viewpoints. Because Brenau respects individual differences, it creates an environment that both nurtures and nudges students from their comfort zones. Brenau blends the old with the new, the traditional with the innovative. The main campus in Gainesville, Georgia, is a 55-acre gem set along the tree-lined boulevards of the historic district of one of the Southeast’s most vibrant and thriving smaller cities. The Women’s College fields intercollegiate teams in basketball, softball, tennis, swimming, soccer, volleyball and cross country. Golden Tigers teams are extremely competitive, not only in the Southern States Athletic Conference but also nationally in the NAIA.
Athletes with national and regional honors for what they do on the field as well as off – in the classroom and in the community. In addition, the university offers some “club”sports. For those who prefer more personal activities, the Brenau campus is near the shores of Lake Lanier, one of the largest impoundments east of the Mississippi River and home of the rowing venue for the Olympics. Brenau University is in close proximity to the Appalachian Trail and recreational areas in the north Georgia Mountains. |

Brenau has three art galleries on campus, each of which is filled with interesting and innovative exhibits throughout the years. In addition, when they are not in galleries or on loan to other museums, works from the university’s impressive permanent collection adorn walls and public spaces throughout campus. In 2010 Brenau became the first academic partner of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, which provides students with an entrée to one of the world’s foremost exhibitors of artworks. It is also a three-block walk from campus to the Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville, a well-respected regional arts organization annually hosts at least at least seven major exhibitions in addition to workshops instructed by nationally and internationally recognized artists.
For three decades Brenau has participated in the unique Gainesville Theatre Alliance, a partnership of academic institutions and local theater amateurs and professionals. Performances ranging across genres from the classics works of Shakespeare, Moliere and Euripides to modern farces and musical comedies occur at Brenau’s two main venues, Hosch Theatre and Pearce Auditorium, and at other locations in Gainesville. Dance and musical performances of every description also fill the Brenau stages through the year, and the world-class programs attract many internationally acclaimed singers, musicians and dancers for performances, recitals, master classes and one-on-one engagement with students. |

The best way to begin your Brenau experience is to experience campus for yourself – meet your neighbors from the community as they walk on campus;
stroll past old homes or to the picturesque town square, the site of one of the first mints in America where coins were made from gold plucked from nearby mountain streams; visit future “sisters” on sorority row; or catch a performance of a new play in the warm intimacy of the restored Victorian-era theater. Prospective students and their families can sign up for a group tour at an Open House session or explore campus on their own – Let us know when you will arrive and we arrange a guide or help in any way we can.
