Gnimbin Ouattara, Ph.D.

Dr. Gnimbin A. Ouattara is a Fulbright scholar from Côte d’Ivoire. He received his Ph.D. in Atlantic Studies (US, Africa, Europe Relations) in 2007 from Georgia State University, and also received a Master’s in Film and Video (2010), specializing in historical documentary-filmmaking from the same university. He is currently a professor of History and International Studies at Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. His work compares the Cherokee and West African civilizing processes within the context of the Western civilizing missions of the nineteenth-century Atlantic.

Dr. Ouattara has received multiple teaching awards, including the National Society of Leadership and Success’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2010, the Hall County Master Teacher of the Year Award in 2013, and the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Seminar for College and University Teachers in 2016. He has presented his research in the US, Europe, Barbados, and Africa. He won the Best Paper Award at the 2014 International Organization of Social Sciences and Behavioral Sciences (IOSSBR) Conference in Las Vegas. Dr. Ouattara has published on a wide array of topics, including the “Politics of Women in Ivory Coast” (2008). His latest publication is titled “Portugal and the Curse of Cain: The Birth of the Transatlantic Slave ‘Trade’, 1421-1441” (2021).
