Dr. Kim Leverett is an Associate Professor at Brenau University’s Mary Inez Grindle School of Nursing, where she develops and coordinates the Post-Master’s Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Program. Dual board-certified as both a Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, she brings an integrative perspective to healthcare education and clinical practice. Dr. Leverett earned her Ph.D. in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, exploring trauma, healing, and spirituality in survivors of childhood sexual abuse. She holds an MSN from Emory University and graduated cum laude from Harding University. Her clinical career spans over two decades across diverse settings—from community mental health and private practice to hospital psychiatric consultations, crisis stabilization, internal medicine, pediatrics, and critical care. Her deepest passion lies in one-on-one psychotherapy, where she honors the profound need for individuals to tell their stories and be truly seen and heard. In academia, she has taught at Augusta, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, and Mercer Universities. Her commitment to underserved populations extends to medical mission work in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Haiti. Named Outstanding Alumni by Harding University’s Carr College of Nursing in 2019, Dr. Leverett remains active in the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, continuing to advance psychiatric nursing while mentoring future practitioners.
