Dr. Charné Furcron is a lifelong dancer who significantly contributed to Moving in the Spirit for over thirty years as the Program Architect. She integrated her passion for community-based dance and movement therapy into the organization’s structure and managed program evaluation to demonstrate the program’s impact on dancers’ youth development goals and dance technique.
Dr. Furcron is currently serving as a Visiting Associate Professor at the Pratt Institute and an Adjunct Professor at Lesley University, where she teaches in their Dance/Movement Therapy programs. In collaboration with Amy Jacques, BC-DMT, she is a supportive co-founder of the first Dance/Movement Therapy program in the South, which has been established at Brenau University. In addition to her teaching roles, Dr. Furcron runs a clinical supervision practice at Heal Thy Energy Expressive Therapy, where she supervises dance therapists, licensed therapists, students, and interns.
Dr. Furcron has served as the Multicultural Diversity Chair on the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) Board of Directors, leading the committee to receive the Innovation Award in 2019 and the Exceptional Service Award in 2020. She was also a member of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) committee, where her team received the Executive Director’s Award at the 2020 conference and the President’s Award in 2022. Dr. Furcron was the keynote speaker at the 2022 NDEO conference and presented the Marian Chace Foundation Lecture at the ADTA conference in October 2024.
