Dr. Sell is a native Georgian who grew up in Albany. He attended the University of Georgia as an undergraduate where he majored in biology, cheered on the bulldogs and performed in the Redcoat Marching Band. Dr. Sell attended graduate school also at UGA, earning an M.Ed. and an Ed.S. while working as a full time teacher in Gwinnett County. In Gwinnett County, Dr. Sell spent time teaching both middle grades as well as high school sciences. Earning a Ph.D. in science education from UGA, Dr. Sell’s research interests include the nature of science and the way that students and practicing teachers learn the nature of science.
Dr. Sell loves working with animals and is the co-owner of a business that breeds various species of snakes and does outreach programs to help educate the public regarding reptiles. In addition to working with animals on land, Dr. Sell is an avid SCUBA diver, studying animals underwater and has done work to help address the problem of coral bleaching in the Florida Keys.
