“Lacemaking in Georgia and Beyond” Reception and Demonstration

Community members turned out to the Nov. 1 opening reception of “Lacemaking in Georgia and Beyond” en masse to peruse beautiful historical lace garments and observe demonstrations of how those garments might have been made. Pieces from the Brenau University Historic Clothing Collection were paired with local, handmade lace samples in this exhibition. Several members of the Gainesville lacemaking group were on site to demonstrate bobbin lacemaking as well as to give visitors the opportunity to try their hand at the process.

This exhibition was a collaboration between Charity Armstead, program director for Fashion Merchandising and Curator of the Clothing Collection, Rachel Ward, senior fashion merchandising student, with the help of additional fashion design and merchandising students and the Brenau University Galleries.
