English Placement Exam

Do I need to take the English Placement Exam?

If you don’t have ACT/SAT scores or a high school transcript, you will need to take the web-based Accuplacer English Placement Exam, unless you choose to place yourself in EH 100 (Academic Reading & Writing).

If you meet one of the following requirements, you do not need to take the English Placement Exam, and you’ll be enrolled in EH 101.

  • ACT English score of 20
  • SAT Critical Reading score of 490 (old SAT prior to March 2016)
  • SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing score of 500 (new SAT, beginning March 2016)
  • At least a 3.0 GPA and no grade lower than a “B” in your last two high school English classes
  • GED score (Fifth Test Series) of 165 or more on Reasoning through Language Arts

You can contact the Humanities Department to take the web-based and virtually proctored Accuplacer English Placement Test, which includes a $10 fee for the proctor.
  • If you are a dual enrollment student or a high school student wanting to take EH 101 you must take the Accuplacer English Placement Test. And, if you want to take an EH 200-level course, you must have a college credit for EH 101.
