General Information

Brenau University offers financial aid in the form of Federal Grants and Direct Loans, as well as State Grants and Scholarships for undergraduate students. Graduate Students are able to receive Federal Loans. Any student who wishes to apply for federal aid and state aid should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.FAFSA.ED.GOV. Keep in mind new students must also complete all Brenau University admissions requirements and be fully accepted for admission before financial aid can be processed. A student who is allowed conditional enrollment is not eligible for financial aid for that term.

Deadlines

Applications for financial aid are generally processed on a rolling basis beginning in early spring. However, completing the FAFSA by April 1st so you can meet our May 1st priority deadline will help to maximize your financial aid package. Please keep in mind that many financial aid programs are limited by budgetary constraints or by legislative processes. The financial aid deadline for each semester is one month prior to the beginning date of that semester. If your admissions and/or financial aid files are not complete by the semester deadline, it will be your responsibility to make payment under any one of the payment options outlined in the Brenau University Catalog. Please contact the Accounting Office to discuss payment arrangements. Students who make payments may be reimbursed after financial aid is awarded. For more information about billing and payment plans please contact the Accounting Office at 770-534-6150.

It’s easy to get the financial aid process started

1. Before you begin the financial aid process make sure you contact the Admissions Office to apply for admission. You must be fully accepted for admission before financial aid can be awarded.

2. In order to apply for Federal grants and loans you must complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you will be beginning in the current Fall semester or upcoming Spring and Summer semesters you would want to complete the 2016-2017 FAFSA. The 2017-2018 FAFSA for next Fall and Spring can be completed beginning October 1st, 2016. Brenau University’s school code is: 001556.

3. If an undergraduate student does not want to complete the FAFSA, they may still apply for state grants and scholarships by completing the Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant/ Hope Application online at www.gafutures.org. To complete the application the student would want to select the tab at the top of the screen that says HOPE & State Aid Programs. Then select State Applications, and GSFAPPS to log in. This will require you to either create an account or log in if you already have an account set up.
