Speakers Bureau Faculty Profile: Dr. Winter Elliott

Caroline Mutch

Like J.R.R. Tolkien, Winter Elliott believes that dragons are one of the best parts of British literature. Graduating from a teenage bookworm to a scholar, Dr. Elliott received her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia; her dissertation examined gender dynamics in medieval literature. She has taught courses ranging from composition to Chaucer to a major authors course focused on C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. She enjoys teaching her students that anyone can be a writer and literature is for everyone. At home, she has two small children who definitely don’t act like werewolves and princesses at all, several dignified cats, and one husband who really wants a large, smelly dog for Christmas.

What is the Brenau Speakers’ Bureau? As a service to high schools in the community, Brenau University faculty have developed classroom presentation topics and professional development workshops. Dr. Winter Elliott’s presentation topics: Race and Racism in Shakespeare, Gender Wars in Shakespeare, Don’t Grow Up Too Soon: Shakespeare’s Adolescence/Adolescents, and Surviving Pandemics Through Literature.
