Marking Brenau’s 145th year of educating women

March is upon us, and it’s always a special time of the year for Brenau University as we celebrate Women’s History Month. It’s especially important to us this year, as we observe our 145th anniversary of educating women and preparing them to lead.

The university was founded in 1878 to provide higher education opportunities to women. While the university became co-educational in the early 1970s, The Women’s College remains a cornerstone of Brenau and is one of only 31 women’s colleges or universities remaining in the United States. Brenau’s Women’s College continues to be a place where women can reach their full potential and flourish personally and professionally.

The signature event for Women’s History Month at Brenau is the Women’s Leadership Colloquium on Friday, March 15, and a dynamic lineup of speakers from the fields of journalism, education and medicine highlights this year’s event.

I also want to thank Dr. Debra Dobkins, assistant vice president and dean of The Women’s College, who founded the colloquium, for her hard work on the event the past 10 years. This event always features lively conversation about the unique potential and challenges of women’s leadership. I look forward to it every year, and I encourage women – and men – to attend and be a part of this important dialogue.

If you have not already registered for this year’s event, I encourage you to do so – and invite a friend.
