Born in Mexico, Erika has lived in Gainesville with her family since 2002. As an English language learner and a servant leader at heart, Erika’s desire to teach English sparked when she noticed members of her family and community struggling to communicate in English, and she would often translate and interpret for them. In spring 2019, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Linguistics, a minor in French, and a certification to teach English as a Foreign Language from Georgia State University. In the summer 2020, she graduated with a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics and a certification to teach English as a Second Language from Georgia State University as well.

Before and during her university years, Erika taught English to a variety of students in different places, such as adults in Gainesville, children in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, international students within the Intensive English Program at Georgia State University, and pre-K students at Little Linguists International Preschool. After her graduation, she has taught adults at the Latin American Association and international students within ON Language’s Intensive English Program at Brenau University. She currently teaches English at Brenau University’s English Language Institute and at the Latin American Association.
