Deirdre Cassell is the Assistant Vice President of the Undergraduate School & The Women’s College at Brenau University, bringing a decade of progressive leadership experience to the role. Her dedication has significantly improved student outcomes, notably contributing to the increase in student retention rates by 14% since 2020.

Cassell began her Brenau career in the Math & Science Department, excelling as a chemistry instructor. Her curriculum development enhanced nursing students’ preparedness, leading to better HESI scores and persistence. She was promoted to assistant professor in 2021 for her instructional expertise and service to the university.

In 2018, Cassell transitioned to administrative leadership, first as Coordinator of Special Projects for the Provost’s Office, then as Executive Director of Academic Initiatives and Student Success in 2021. Under her guidance, Brenau launched the Center for Academic Success and The English Language Institute, significantly bolstering student support. She also oversees Accessibility Services, First Year Experience, and the Honors Program.

A Brenau alumna with a biology degree, Cassell also holds a master’s degree in chemistry from Georgia State University. She has been awarded fellowships through the Sullivan Foundation and the Georgia Association of Women in Higher Education Fellows Leadership Program, and was recognized among the Top 50 Women Leaders of Georgia for 2025 by Women We Admire. Cassell is an active member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society and Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity.
