Dance/Movement Therapy Graduate Certificate Program

Students and a professor engage in a dance movement therapy activity

Heal people in your community both mentally and physically by harnessing the benefits of dance and movement therapy. By completing Brenau’s Dance/Movement Therapy Graduate Certificate Program, you’ll learn how to effectively apply dance and movement into improving individuals’ quality of life, whether they’re living with a chronic condition or navigating trauma. 

This part-time program offers nine courses with criteria established by the American Dance Therapy Association. Courses are housed in the new state-of-the-art  Lynn J. Darby School of Psychology and Adolescent Counseling facility, which is located inside the Gainesville Renaissance.

Candidates for program entry

  1. Students enrolled in Brenau’s Master of Science in Clinical Counseling Psychology program or Doctorate in Psychology program
  2. Individuals who have completed a clinical master’s or doctoral degree and are currently licensed (or in the process of getting licensed) as a counselor, psychologist or clinical social worker

  • Group Dance/Movement Therapy

An undergraduate kinesiology class is recommended but not required for the DMT certificate program. However, this course is required to become a registered DMT through ADTA. This course is available at Brenau.

Admissions requirements

To be considered for this program the applicant must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Statement detailing your training and experience
  • Statement of intent to become a registered dance/movement therapist
  • GPA 3.0 or higher from all college transcripts
  • Three professional references
  • Official transcripts from all previous college/universities
  • Combined GRE score of 540 or higher within the past seven years 
  • One of the following:
    • Transcripts documenting clinical or counseling master’s or doctoral degree in psychology, counseling, social work or a related field
    • Current enrollment in a qualifying master’s or doctoral program, or acceptance to Brenau’s Master of Science in Clinical Counseling Psychology program or Doctorate in Psychology program
