Swimming Named Academic All-American Team
The Brenau University swim team was named this week as the top NAIA/NJCAA Scholar All-American team for fall 2014 by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
The Golden Tigers led the NAIA/NJCAA women’s team awards for the fall term with an overall 3.52 GPA and was recognized as a Scholar All-American team.
“At the beginning of the season, the team and I discussed the importance of the student aspect of ‘student-athlete’ and made it a priority to perform well in the classroom,” said head coach Blaire Bachman. “I’m proud of them for accomplishing this goal.”
The squad was also recently crowned 2014 Appalachian Swimming Conference champions after outpacing second place Wheeling Jesuit (W.V.) and Union (Ky.) University and has qualified for the NAIA National Championships next week in Oklahoma City.
In 2014, the team finished fourth at the National Championships, crowning two individual national champions, six All-American selections and two All-American relays. Bachman was also tabbed as NAIA Swimming and Diving Co-Coach of the Year.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America is the oldest professional organization of college coaches in America. The CSCAA is dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level.
