The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America this week named the Brenau University Golden Tigers swim team a Scholar All-America Team for its academic performance.

The award recognizes teams that achieved a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2016 fall semester. The Golden Tigers’ GPA for the semester was 3.42, above the all women’s teams’ average of 3.336.

Brenau had the sixth highest GPA out of all National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics women’s swim teams.

“I’m so proud of my team and their commitment to succeeding in the classroom,” said Head Coach Nathan Rhoads. “They work hard in the pool and in the classroom, and it is an honor to work with them and to see their efforts recognized.”

CSCAA Executive Director Joel Shinofield said the credit for these recognitions goes to both the students and the coaches.

“Our coaches understand that the essence of intercollegiate athletics is the experience each student-athlete receives, and an emphasis on academics reflects what coaches feel is most important,” Shinofield said.

Founded in 1922, CSCAA – the oldest organization of college coaches in America – is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport at the collegiate level.
