Brenau University music faculty and professional friends will perform the “Liebeslieder Waltzes” of Johannes Brahms in vocal ensembles and solo recital in a musical “Evening of Love” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 22, on the Gainesville campus. The program and reception, which are free and open to the public, begin at 7:30 p.m. in the John S. Burd Performing Arts Center at 429 Academy St.

Joining soprano Barbara Steinhaus, chair of the department of music at Brenau, will be professional vocalists Wanda Yang Temko, longtime “voice of the arts” at Atlanta´s classical music radio station WABE-FM; tenor Bradley Howard, a frequent guest to the Brenau campus in the university International Opera Center performances and recitals; and baritone Bart Gilleland, a rising young star of the Atlanta music scene.

The pianists will be Brenau artist-in-residence William Fred Scott and piano professor Benjamin Leaptrott.

In the first half of the program, the four singers will present songs with a “love theme” by Richard Strauss and Hugo Wolf. The centerpiece of the program, however, will be the Brahms works – 16 short, seductive waltzes in praise of love.

After the program, there will be a reception to meet the artists.
