Sara Jane Bowers of Statesboro, Ga., has signed a letter of intent with Brenau University for the 2014 golf season, making her the university’s newest asset for this upcoming season.

Bowers is the 2013 GHSA Girls Junior Sectional Challenge Match Champion, the 2013 Forest Heights Country Club Ladies Champion, a Wendy’s Heisman High School award winner, and a three-year letterman for Statesboro High School. She is the daughter of Clark and Cindy Bowers.

In addition to her outstanding athletic career, Bowers is a strong student who is very active in her community. She serves as a Bulloch County 4-H board member, has volunteered at the Statesboro Soup Kitchen and has donated time to both mission work and local nursing homes.

“I could not be happier to call myself a Golden Tiger,” Bowers said. “I chose Brenau University because the moment I walked on campus I fell in love. Brenau has amazing academics, which I was looking for in a college, and I love the small campus feel and the history of the school.”

Brenau head golf coach Damon Stancil , noted that his latest recruit’s experience is a positive for his team.

“I am very excited to have Sara Jane on the team next fall. Her character and strong work ethic make ‘SJ’ an excellent fit for our team and university,” Stancil said. “She is an outstanding talent with the type of tournament experience that will enable her to transition seamlessly to the college game. A player of SJ’s caliber will help us continue to build the Golden Tigers golf team into a winning program.”

Bowers plans on majoring in fashion merchandising. She is the  second high school athlete to commit to Brenau golf  for the 2014 season. Olivia Davis of Flowery Branch , Ga., a West Hall High School standout, signed a letter of intent earlier as the first 2014 recruit.
