Lauren Smith Signs to Play Golf at Brenau
Lauren Smith is the newest Golden Tiger at Brenau University. The 18-year-old 2013 graduate of Johnson High School in Gainesville, Ga, signed her scholarship Wednesday, June 5 in the Brenau University gym surrounded by her coaches, family and friends including her parents Todd and Catherine Smith and her best friend Taylor Young.
Lauren participated and excelled in the golf program each year of her high school career resulting in four consecutive MVP awards for the 2010 thru 2013 seasons. Some of Laurens accomplishments include as a freshman, 10th place finish 2010 Region 8AAA with a score of 92, T-3rd with a score of 88 at the 8AAA Region Championship in 2012 allowing her to continue to the State tournament as an individual where she placed 19th overall. In 2013 Lauren went on to place ninth at the 8AAAA sectionals and finished 18th at her final State tournament.
Not only did Lauren excel on the golf course but was an exemplary student academically. During her four years of high school she maintained a 4.0 GPA and graduated with honors on May 23, 2013. She also participated in and completed the first Business, Ethics Student Training program also known as Georgia Best and was presented the Student of the Year for Johnson High School.
Lauren is excited about her future involvement with Brenau, where she plans to enter the pre-nursing program. She sees the potential of a great education teamed with the new Brenau Golf Program as a win/win opportunity.
