Helene Smith-Gabai, Ph.D., OTD, OTR/L, BCPR
Helene Smith-Gabai is an Assistant Professor in the Norcross and Gainesville campuses. She has an undergraduate degree in psychology from Brooklyn College (CUNY), and a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Columbia University. She has a clinical doctorate (OTD) and a research doctorate (PhD) from Nova Southeastern University. Helene’s area of research is on the discharge planning practices of acute care occupational therapists.
Prior to working at Brenau University, Helene was employed full time as a clinician for Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, GA. Prior to that she worked PRN at a variety of hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and home health in Atlanta GA and Myrtle Beach SC, and at an inpatient rehabilitation facility in White Plains, NY. Helene has also worked as a group leader for two Arthritis Foundation community programs in Atlanta.
Helene’s professional interests include updating the book Occupational Therapy in Acute Care, being moderator of the GOTA listserv and a member of GOTA’s continuing education committee, and an AOTA board certification application reviewer.
