Admission to the Theatre Program

Admission into GTA is highly competitive. All Theatre BFA programs (Acting, Musical Theatre, Design & Technology) accept 12 students per academic year, while the Theatre BA program is capped at 20 students per year. Admission to all programs is by audition or interview only. Note that you must also be accepted into the institution (either BU or UNG depending on the program) before final acceptance into your program of choice. Scholarships in all programs are awarded to students based on talent, commitment, and academic performance.

Students interested in the BFA in Acting or the BFA in Musical Theatre must pass a screening audition and be invited to either a callback event in Gainesville OR a virtual callback via zoom (given the ongoing Covid19 pandemic). Screening auditions may be submitted as a video attachment through this site or at one of the regional theatre conferences (Southeastern Theatre Conference, Georgia Theatre Conference, or Georgia Thespian Conference—note that all conferences this year are being held virtually). Designers and Technicians must submit a sample portfolio through Acceptd and interview either in Gainesville or via zoom.

We know you may have many questions about the logistics and benefits of our unique collaboration between two different schools, and we are happy to meet with you to discuss and provide insight. The best way to gain an understanding of the program is to attend a GTA scholarship audition event, either in-person or virtually, where you will see our work, have the chance to meet current students, and discuss your academic and career goals with faculty and staff.
