The English program furthers Brenau University’s purpose of preparing students to “live extraordinary lives.” The English major exemplifies liberal education by developing students’ reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills through their engagement with literature.The English faculty are committed to providing stimulating and student-centered classes that broaden historical and global perspective, enhance students’ understanding of ethical and artistic criteria of judgment, and foster respect for individuals and cultures.

The English degree prepares students for graduate study and careers in many fields, including education, law, the diplomatic corps, journalism, publishing, editing, creative writing, business and technical communications, library and information science, public relations, and business.

The Elixir

The Elixir is the annually published literature and arts magazine of Brenau University. Its purpose is to showcase outstanding student work in creative writing and the visual arts. You must be a current student at Brenau University in order to submit. We do not accept pieces longer that 1,000 words. You may submit more than one piece at a time. All writers and artists retain their copyrights.

The Writing Center

Mission Statement
The Brenau University Writing Center, a peer-tutoring service, offers individualized writing conferences and group workshops for students across disciplines, and through the online center, across campuses. The Writing Center supports the university’s goal to foster intellectual and professional accomplishment as it helps students develop their ability to communicate articulately in writing or speech.
