Amy Jacques, BC-DMT, LPC has been teaching at Brenau University since 2017. She teaches in both the dance and psychology departments. She is a board certified dance/movement therapist and a licensed professional counselor. She has an MA in dance/movement therapy from Columbia College, an MS in Clinical Counseling Psychology with a specialization in teaching from Brenau University and a BA from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is also a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200). In addition Amy has completed basic and advanced certifications through the Isadora Foundation in New York in teaching Duncan technique. She previously taught in the Stage and Screen Department at Western Carolina University and the Creative Arts Therapy Department at Georgia College and State University. She is involved with both the dance/movement therapy minor and the upcoming dance/movement therapy graduate certificate program at Brenau. The graduate certificate program will be starting Summer 2023. Amy also has a private practice where she works as a counselor and dance/movement therapist. Her specialties include working with trauma, eating disorders, anxiety, and depression, and with clients on the autism spectrum She is a founding member and former President of the Southern Chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) and currently serves on the ADTA Subcommittee for Approval of Alternate Route Courses (SAARC).

Amy has professional dance experience in both ballet and modern. Growing up in Chicago she danced with a number of Chicago dance companies including Ballet Chicago, Boitsov Classical Ballet, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Ballet Theatre of Chicago. She also danced with a number of regional ballet companies and performed as a guest artist with Lori Belilove and the Isadora Duncan Dance Company and Duncan Dance Chicago. Amy has choreographed and staged works for various schools, companies, and festivals.
