Julie Carbaugh, Ph.D.

Julie Carbaugh is an assistant professor of education at Brenau University. Dr. Carbaugh holds a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy Education from the University of Georgia, where she also earned an interdisciplinary qualitative studies graduate certificate. Prior to earning her Ph.D., Dr. Carbaugh earned a bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from Brenau University and a master’s in Elementary Reading and Literacy (K-6) from Walden University. She also holds the ESOL endorsement. Dr. Carbaugh has over 17 years of notable teaching and service at the elementary and university levels. Dr. Carbaugh teaches courses focused on literacy education, children’s literature, and ESOL.

Dr. Carbaugh is a teacher consultant with the National Writing Project and has presented at numerous national and regional conferences, including NCTE, LRA, and USBBY, and has publications related to literacy education and children’s literature. Her research interests include reading instruction, reader identity, reader response,  global children’s literature, and culturally and linguistically diverse learners. In her spare time, Dr. Carbaugh is an avid reader and enjoys spending time outdoors or traveling with her family.
