Bachelor of Business Administration: Human Resources Management

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has acknowledged that Brenau University’s BBA and MBA degrees in Human Resouce Management fully align with SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates. Throughout the world, 437 programs in 325 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The guidelines — created in 2006 and revalidated in 2010 and 2013 — are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.

Human Resource Management: The purpose of the Human Resources Management program is to develop the students’ knowledge, abilities and competence to recognize and evaluate the human assets in an organization and manage them for the mutual benefit of employers and employees in a proactive and strategic manner. This major prepares students for career opportunities in areas of an organization including employee selection, organizational change, human resource development, corporate culture, team-building, career planning, safety and health and global human resources issues. Upon completion of the Human Resource Management program students should be able to: demonstrate an understanding of compensation law, systems, and delivery methods; design and prioritize Human Resource management strategies for reading strategic organizational goals and objectives; demonstrate understanding of successful individual and group leadership behaviors and processes in organizations; demonstrate understanding of the elements of cultural competence (ethnocentricity, bias, prejudice, cultural universals, Hofstede’s dimensions of culture) to effectively engage with a multicultural population.
