“Yes! We got the grant once again!” The excitement radiated from Admissions Counselor Maria Iñiguez upon hearing the news that Brenau was selected once again to receive the IME Scholarship.

The IME (Institute for Mexicans Abroad) Scholarships (Becas in Spanish) is a program provided through the Government of Mexico that seeks to expand educational opportunities for Mexicans abroad and is aimed at students with low economic resources who attend basic, university and technological education. Brenau President Anne Skleder signed the agreement for the funding at the Mexican Consulate in Atlanta on October 9th, 2020. In addition to the scholarship funds, support for Mexican students is provided through a Hispanic peer mentoring program and guidance from multilingual staff in the university’s admissions, financial aid and student services offices.

President Skleder signed the initial agreement back in December 2019 and had this to say: “We know education changes lives and the trajectories of families, and we are proud to have received this important funding.”
