Education: the Degree that Inspires

We all have that one teacher that was more than just a teacher.  The one that inspired us or taught us life lessons that we would never forget.  I still remember my former swim coach and mentor, Mrs. Lobb.  She was tough in the classroom and on the pool deck but she inspired me to reach for the stars because when you put your mind to it anything is possible.

“Becoming an educator is more than just teaching,” said Kimberly Davis, the Director of Clinical Experiences at Brenau University College of Education.  “You never know what your influence on the children you teach will inspire them to do.”

The Brenau University College of Education offers an amazing Education degree program.  Here at the College of Education, one can obtain an undergraduate and graduate degree, postgraduate certification and other credentials for entrance and advancement in education careers.  The program is specifically designed to allow students the opportunity to have in classroom experience as soon as their first year.

“We try to go above and beyond to ensure our students are well prepared,” said Davis, who has been involved with the education department since the last 80s.  “It allows them to determine if this is really what they want to do.”  The university has an outstanding reputation among prospective employers in both the public and private sectors.  This gives Brenau education graduates good standings to compete for job opportunities at all levels.

When one graduates with an education degree, they do not necessarily have to work in the classroom.  “I have worked as a principal for some time and have even worked on the administration end,” said Davis.  Possible careers include:

  • Teacher
  • Assistant principal
  • Principal
  • Superintendent
  • School district administrator
  • Councilor
