What our students and graduates think:

Katie Eckler

"When I first started college, like so many other people my age, I had no idea what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I did know that I wanted to help people and do so in a challenging and diverse atmosphere."

As a senior Psychology major, I was given an internship opportunity with the Occupational Therapists at an early intervention center for children with disabilities. Through that experience and the motivation of faculty at both North Georgia and Brenau, I decided on OT.

While many Occupational Therapists have a Biology background, others (like me) choose Psychology as their basis for the field. I feel that my education in Health Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology, and Research Methods will help me better interpret the needs of people I come in contact with. In several of my undergraduate courses, I was taught how to listen actively to others and interpret a patient's needs and goals rather than my own as a therapist or counselor.

I encourage you as a prospective OT student to research your interests and seek out those established in the field or those currently in a program for advice. My experience at Brenau so far has been an excellent one and I look forward to the opportunities this program has for me and my future!
