"Taming Nationalism? Political Community Building in the Post-Soviet Baltic States"
by Dovile Budryte, Ph.D.

Helen Ray, vice president for academic affairs, said "The accomplishment and the subject matter are both very impressive. Professor Budryte manages to maintain serious scholarship while providing excellent teaching and commitment to her students, a wonderful combination for any professor, and most especially for faculty serving at a liberal arts college."

Ashgate Publishing describes Budryte's book as identifying the causes that led to a transformation of nationalism from illiberal to more liberal forms in a region that has recently experienced such a transformation - the Baltic States. It analyzes the role that international actors have played in these processes and assesses the unintended consequences of this involvement. The book is primarily intended for an academic audience and practitioners interested in promoting tolerance in multiethnic societies. Ashgate say its historical narrative will appeal to readers who have a general interest in the former Soviet Union.
