Brenau University and art: There has been a close bond between the two in this century, the previous one, and even part of the one that came before. Founded in 1878, Brenau University has a rich and distinguished heritage of excellence in the fine arts. The institution is known for this emphasis.  Visual expression enhances or even surpasses written communications, enriches lives by providing a cultural legacy, and increases individual and collective awareness of life's most meaningful experiences.

Students in almost all of the art and design programs receive a strong foundation in elements and principles of design, and rendering in both dimensions. They are endowed with a critical awareness of the history of their specific concentration.  As they progress through their courses of study, they further hone their skills in field-related aesthetics and overall critical thinking.

Faculty members endeavor to assist students in their professional development by inviting outside consultants and guest speakers, field trips to local, regional, national or even international sites, practicums, internships and other opportunities for 'real-world' projects and problem-solving. Art and Design students in any of the 7 programs have opportunities to exhibit their work in our annual collaborative exhibitions.

Despite the fact that we do not require one for entrance, we invite you to submit your work for a portfolio review in order to apply for an Art and Design scholarship.
